Special Reopening Exhibition @ LAG (LIVE ART GALLERY)

We are pleased to inform you about our special exhibition “Tara Books (Chennai, South India) x Live Art Books Collaboration Project: FLUKES ARE NO MISTAKES—Embracing Chance Happenings for the Future of Bookmaking.”

LAG (Live Art Gallery) is celebrating its reopening at Jingumae and is holding a special exhibition, FLUKES ARE NO MISTAKES—Embracing Chance Happenings for the Future of Bookmaking, introducing a short film and an original book produced through collaboration with Tara Books, a Chennai-based publishing office that is often described as a miracle.

Tara Books handles all bookmaking processes, from papermaking and printing to binding, by hand. Their beautiful picture books and visual books are highly acclaimed worldwide and have won major international awards, such as the 2008 Ragazzi New Horizons Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy.

This project focuses on the “mistakes” of the internationally acclaimed Tara Books and produces a short film, FLUKES ARE NO MISTAKE, under the direction of Arun Wolf. In addition, an original book based on the film will be exhibited and sold at the gallery. The book further explores “mistakes,” a main theme of the film, through interviews and contributing texts. In Tara Books’ book-making process, what kind of mistakes have they experienced, and how have they produced ideas from them? Using the unique institutional culture of Tara Books as a guide and the dialogue between Tara Books and Live Art Books, a Japanese art book publisher, we contemplate the future of bookmaking.

About the Newly Published Book

We published a collaborative book between Tara Books and Live Art Books on the theme of the short film featured in the exhibition.
